Mick Simon's New Cabinet

Here's some images of Mick's cabinet that he made for the Bandsawn Veneer class. The curved mesquite doors and drawer fronts are veneers that he cut, sanded and glued to a bending ply substrate. The cabinet is solid ambrosia maple, dovetailed together.

The cabinet installed. Cool sink!
TEXTURE!

Woodworking Note: This is how Mick drilled the cabinet door to insert the pulls. He used the same form in the vacuum press to bend the doors. Note how perfectly the doors match the form with this technique.

I took pictures of these samples by Jenna Goldberg, furniture maker, this summer in Philadelphia at the Furniture Society Conference. She frequently uses basswood for it's light/white contrast when she carves through the surface of the paint. She likes to use this Rosco brand paint, often blending the ground colors of her compositions from top to bottom with a soft, wide brush. No surface left undecorated! (Click on a photo to enlarge). To see more of her work: http://www.jennagoldbergstudio.com/

I think this will be my next jigs and fixtures project since it seems simple, reliable and cheap.
